Wednesday night Sam and I went with our downstairs neighbors (Kevin and Amy) to Core Creek Park. W
e had a picnic and hunted for worms, salamanders, and crayfish with their kiddos
(Kaden and Jesse). It is very beautiful here in the spring. The trees spring forth with all different shades of pink, white, and purple flowers long before there are leaves out.

Farrah writes: I finally finished this scarf last night, and it is the longest scarf I have ever knit, easily 8 ft.
But isn't it lovely? I am giving it to my friend Angie, because she knit one just like it using different colors for me, we kind of did a scarf swap. Although it was a fun scarf to knit, it was nice to finally have it finished.
In other news, I was MIA for a week or so because the respiratory virus that is going around hit hard here at the Frye home. I was in bed for a week, unable to do much, not even knit. I am feeling a hundred times better now, and am glad to be well. I can even knit again, and am finishing my small back log of UFO's I had going there.
Farrah writes: I am part of the Christian Knitters group on Ravelry, and someone in the group proposed a sock/prayer swap. So we each got someone's name and sock preferences, and we were to knit and pray for the person whose name we got. I just finished my socks the other day, and blocked them yesterday.
I used a pattern called Nutkin that I found on Ravelry, and I used Lorna's Laces sock yarn in the River color way. Here is the finished result:
In other exciting news I am going to my LYS
this afternoon to meet my friend Angie to knit. Later, two of my non-knitting friends will be joining us, and I will be teaching them how to knit...... further indoctrination!
It is the second month of the new year and time to clean the blog of my old years knitting projects. I think this year will be spent making simpler things. I am too mentally tired from the day to attempt to knit anything challenging. My sister in law is expecting her first baby, so I will be knitting a lot of baby items. There is no better welcome in the world than a cozy knit to be swaddled in!
Farrah writes: I mailed the majority of my Christmas hand knits today. The line at the post office was, well, not fun! I have one gift left to knit (the mystery gift) and I got half of it done today. I hope to finish it tomorrow and visit my friends at FedEx on Wednesday! Ok, no more time to type, I have to keep knitting!
Farrah writes: These are the socks I made for my little brother. (AMY - KEEP HIM AWAY FROM MY BLOG!) I call them "Opposocks" because, well, they are opposites! They were fun to knit, and knit up pretty quick. Matthew modeled them for me as he has the same HUGE feet my brother does. Casey is lucky he is going to get these things because Matthew protested when I tried to take them off his feet after the photo was done.
Now I just have one Christmas present left to knit, and it will be kept secret.
Today I hope to cast on the last gift, do some wrapping and getting packages ready to ship tomorrow, and finishing Christmas cards.
I just so happened to meet another Farrah on Ravelry! Can you believe it? The other Farrah and I began writing back and forth, and became friends pretty quickly. You would not believe how much two Farrah's can have in common! After a few weeks of knowing one another we came up with the idea to do a "Thanksgiving Farrah Swap". My package came a few days before Thanksgiving, and I wanted to share it with everyone. Here's what I got:
1. The book "One Skein Wonders". I have wanted this book for a while now, and really like it. One skein books seem really practical and handy, we always have spare skeins laying around.
2. 1 ball of Katia Jamaica color 4010 with which to make the "Jamaica Pouch" on page 90 of the book. I think this little pouch will be really handy to carry odds and ends around in during the summer!
3. One skein of "Smooshy Sock Yarn" by Dream in Color Yarns. Now the funny thing about this is that I sent Farrah the exact same skein of yarn but in a different color way in her care package!
4. An adorable little frog notions case! It will hold my notions so perfectly. Who wouldn't want a little frog in their knitting bag?
5. These labels for hand knits I make that say "Made just for you by Farrah". What Farrah does not know is that I have been pondering labels for some months now!
6. This adorable hat that I cannot for the life of me remember the name of! But it is cute!
7. Not pictured is the hot tamales which have been consumed!
Thanks Farrah! I loved my care package!
Farrah, what is this strange knitted object over what appears to be a glass pumpkin? Well friends, this knitted item is a Child's Winter Helmet, and since I do not have a child here to model in a cute photo for me, I have to use a glass pumpkin vase I have at home. Use your imagination though, it will be adorable when it's on my nephew Jack, and not a glass pumpkin. Isn't there a fairy tale involving a glass pumpkin? Or is that a glass slipper?
In other knitting news is the casting on of socks for my brother. I am using Cascade Superwash, and they should be great socks for him in the Minnesota winter. I am making up my own pattern as I go along, and so far they are coming out nicely. I will post a picture here when they are complete, but progress photos will be on Ravelry.
Thanksgiving was good here this year, and I am going to complete my Christmas knitting with plenty of breathing room. I have to finish these socks, and then knit up some mittens.
Oh, while my parents were visiting before Matthew's arrival home I taught my mother how to knit! It was fun and she caught on really fast. She emailed me to say she was going to keep practicing, which excites me because it can be another fun thing we can do together during visits. (Sister Amy, if you can get any pictures of her knitting for the blog, feel free to email them to me!)
